Smart Business Coaching

growing | Tim Norton | 0 Comments

Business coaches can be a great way of ensuring that you keep growing and stay feeling on your A game, I’ve been chatting to plenty of business coaches recently about working smarter using PlanHQ, a good business coach will do 4 key things:

  1. Help you figure out where you’re at
  2. Work with you on defining your direction
  3. Put this direction into a plan which they can then help you action and track.
  4. Help you stay motivated and stay personal with you

Success with a business coach

Success for a business coach is measured by the growth of the businesses they’re working with, so making sure businesses keeping making progress on whats been laid out in the plan everyday, and tracking their progress overtime is the key ongoing process of a good coach. A coach doesn’t just set your direction then wait for you at the finish line, they stay with you on the way and help get you there.

The traditional coaching process

Normally this is done in spreadsheets and word documents being emailed back and forward each week or month, but this isn’t very timely, and doesn’t enable everyone in the business to know what they need to do everyday to stay on track and make them feel progress. And for coaches, its very hard to understand where all their clients are at, so a lot of time is wasted getting up to speed every week or month, so there’s less time on the front foot, being pro-active.

Smart Coaching on PlanHQ

When businesses work with a coach on PlanHQ, everyone is focused on the direction of the business and can quickly set direction, take action and track progress. This enables coaches to check in on businesses more frequently, and see when they’re getting behind or off-track so they can step in and help. When everything is out in front of your team and your coach you create a culture of accountability and everybody can help each other.

The Coaches Basics

PlanHQ is like your level 1 coach, it takes everything you’ve agreed to do with your coach and puts it in front of you and your team everyday. It knows your targets, so it will remind you, and help you make progress. This helps let the coach focus on helping you move forward. When its time for coaches and businesses to have a regular meet, PlanHQ knows exactly whats been achieved, whats been missed, and whats planned for the next stage, so everyone is up to speed and can focus on what needs fixing and adjusting and where .

Cable Car Challenger Finals

Last night I went along to the finals of the Cable Car Challenge. I was blown away by some of the finalists, with everything from a uniquely New Zealand salad bar, to online startups like Medrecruit (placing doctors based on lifestyle) and Hirethings (an online hire community), to extremely technical things that I couldn't quite get my head around. The winner was Eyemagnet, who are...(Read more)

Is your business booming?

I've spent the day listening to Business is Booming from TVNZ on demand. It's on tv in New Zealand on Saturday mornings at 8am, but for those of us who sleep in and don't like ads it's all online. (The TVNZ website is a little weird, so go here and search for 'Business is Booming' to view the episodes or Subscribe to the Business is...(Read more)

How defining your target markets can earn you bucketloads

Have you ever had a project that ran over time, over budget and required you to do a whole bunch of stuff you have never needed to do before and will never need to do again? Do you ever say 'yes' to customer inquiries even though they are asking you to do something that isn't quite your core business? Do you buy stock on a whim and...(Read more)

Why are YOU in business?

Why are YOU in business?

Most people assume you get into business to make a LOT of money... Eventually. If that were true, everyone who had made a lot of money would take it and head to the beach, but many seem to just work harder. I've met people who have fought growth at all costs. They've done the hard yards in another career, this one is about lifestyle, about having something...(Read more)
