I’ve just been down at the Small business expo drumming up entries for the Cable Car Challenge. If you haven’t been yet, GO. I met so many weird and wonderful small business owners, some with the coolest stories of how they decided to make their dreams happen.
One guy was at Sydney airport watching the luggage being transported from the plane to the terminal. He thought ‘Man it’s difficult to find my bags in all that luggage, I wonder if there is any way I can make my bags stand out?’. He now imports and sells luggage tags and a whole bunch of other stuff. He has a business plan, and he sticks to it, and I think I sold him on PlanHQ.
Another guy said ’sorry, you caught me at the wrong moment. I have employees, business is booming, we’re making tonnes of money, but right now I just feel totally uninspired.’ I know that feeling, we laughed about it. He went on, looking for the inspiration that small business owners can only get from talking to other small business owners.
I talked to quite a few business students who leaped at the chance to kickstart their businesses… and many, many more people who had rope climbing set up, cow bells to throw gumboots at, prizes to win, and some super stories to tell.
If you’re in Wellington, you have NO EXCUSE!
Expo is as TSB Bank Arena and finishes Friday

Fantastic, positive posts. Thanks for plugging Cable Car Challenge. Only 7 days to go until entries close so everyone should be fine-tuning their two page business summary by now.
